Deciduous large shrub/small tree with pinnate or palmate divided leaves which although mid green in spring and summer, blaze brilliantly in autumn.
Yellow flowers in early summer become tight cones of deep red fruit in late summer that hold well over winter.
Young branches are velvety hence the common name.

Common names: Stag's horn tree, staghorn sumac, velvet sumac.
*Prone to suckering, particularly after pruning.
*Reduce size by pruning in the dormant season every 3 years.
*Prune in February.
